Celebrating the new year 2012

Celebrating the beginning of a New Year 2012 and saying good bye to 2011 with members of STAR Chapter 230 at Ed and Susan’s home and everyone had a good time.  We are now 12 years into the 21st century and it seems not too long ago we witnessed the arrival of the year 2000, a whole new century. I pondered for years whether I would live to see a new century.  It occurs to me that there are infants and young children alive today that will witness the arrival of another century when 2100 comes around in 88 more years.  I can’t even imagine what the world will be like so many years in the future any more than those living in 1912 could imagine what the world would be like 88 years ahead in 2000 much less 2012.  I am making some assumptions that there will be a year 2100 and that there will be humans populating the planet…we can only hope.

One aspect of the internet is that all this written and photographic material could still be around years into the future as long as Google and Apple and the rest of the high tech world are still here in some form or other.  This truly is an amazing time to experience the world around us especially with all the new electronic gadgets coming onto the scene.  While there are loved ones and friends we miss that did not make it this far, to be able to share with us the wonders and excitement of good times, they are often in our thoughts and memories.

It seems that the beginning of a new year initiates thoughts of resolve and renewed determination to be a better person, to lose weight, start an exercise program, eliminate bad habits, get a new job, a new relationship or get out of a bad one.  So many thoughts of all kinds spring up with the New Year.  As for me I think a motorcycle ride would help put it all in perspective or at least make a good start on the year.

Oh yes, and for smokers, don’t let thoughts of a spot on your lung interfere with your smoking pleasure, after all no one lives forever.  I’m just glad my American Funds owns a lot of Philip Morris Stock.
Here’s looking forward to many new destinations and adventures on two wheels with great friends in 2012 and beyond.   Remember- the trip IS the destination.
