Thursday Aug. 2, O.M.G. meeting report

Every Orange Motorcycle Group meeting starts off about the same, with one or two folks showing up at first and then the rest trickle in over the next 30-45 minutes or so until we get a viable group of anywhere from 10-18 members in attendance. This Thursday's meeting at Blake's is no different, but the mix of personalities made for a very gregarious and sharing meeting that went over the top for fun and good times. When Genevieve and I arrived, there was Joe, Stan and Johney already there and soon Ed and Susan walked in and from there it just continued to build to a great time. Also with us tonight were Wayne, Chuck, Brian H.-yellow Goldwing, and Brian B. (Pilot), plus Carolyn making a rare motorcycle appearance for a total of twelve. Topics covered a number of recent trips including the big group ride led by Ed, Susan, Chuck and Patty plus Wayne and Richard's ride to Reno, NV with all it's adventures, along with Johney, Brian H. and Evan B. riding separate portions of the trip. Carolyn's ride to Hell's Kitchen with several of her Harley group friends today gave her the opportunity to arrive by motorcycle for tonight.

An upcoming next Saturday ride over Mulholland Drive got a good bit of attention as well as some feed back that traffic on the return trip could be slower than axle grease on a cold morning. On top of that there is the big party at the STARR Ranch off Green River and the 91 Fwy Sunday that should be a really big show with Ed and Susan running around finishing off a myriad of last minute details to make it the success we are sure it will be. If you ever wanted to slap a bull ala the movie Wild Hogs, this may be your once-in-a-lifetime chance. Beyond that there is a first week of November, 2012 Death Valley ride that has built a reputation of epic proportions regarding the ride and possible opportunity to see Johney go psycho-ballistic if by any chance they lose his reservation at the motel again. Death Valley in November has been a favorite motorcycle ride for several groups including Joe and his friend Bob Hayes going for many years now. Last year John Ruhland and his sister Harriet rode with us and looking back after his sudden passing has made it all the more special in my memory along with Johney, Joe, Brian, Wayne and everyone on the trip that knew him . Oh yes, there is a ride to Pismo Beach coming up in a couple months that has the potential to be as big a blast as the one from last year. If you mention the Pismo ride to anyone that was there you have instant recognition of a truly uproarious couple days of frivolity and madness along with a great ride or two unrivaled among any mentioned so far.

I have to add that for those regulars missing from these events of Thursday August 2, 2012 you missed a good one. If you have never been to one of our weekly meetings you can find out what it is all about by showing up unannounced and invite yourself in it's that easy. Our next monster meeting for the Orange Motorcycle Group will be at Tutto Fresco in Orange beginning at 5:30 PM on August 9, start planning now. One more thing, we are trying to get our meetings packaged as a spin-off of Meet the American Hutterites and if you watched that on the National Geographic Society channel you know what I'm talking about. Looking at some of the people in the show makes a great case against in-breeding in my opinion and the same applies to our group as well.
